Are Parabens Safe?

What is a Paraben? Parabens are an antiseptic, antioxidant preservative used in cosmetics and sometimes food.  They are used to keep molds, bacteria and other microorganisms out of food and personal care products. Experts say that 85% of all personal care products contain parabens. These parabens – found in shampoo, make-up, lotions, shaving gel, etc – are absorbed through the skin.  Experts are paying attention and it is now thought that these parabens can be linked to breast cancer. The CDC has found that women have a much higher level of parabens concentrated in their bodies. We all know women are more likely to apply more skin care products in a day than men are, so this is no surprise.  They …… ( more )

Posted by & filed under Ingredients, Vintage Body Care.

Ancient Benefits for Modern Times Salt is an essential element required for human life.  Humans can endure periods without food, but our bodies cannot tolerate long periods without water, or salt.  Salt has played a crucial role in both ancient and modern societies, and is key requirement for human survival and the development of civilizations. Before they could preserve food, ancient peoples were at the mercy of seasonal food supplies for their subsistence.  In times of plenty, life was good, but in lean times, life was uncertain and grim.  The discovery of salt as a food preservative made it possible for humans to migrate over long distances to areas of greater food supplies, while taking their food stores with them. In ancient times salt was difficult to acquire, and this made it a highly valued trade item, a form of …… ( more )

March Giveaway and Why We LOVE it!

Posted by & filed under Giveaways, Uncategorized.

March is here and we are oh-so-happy about it!  Why?  March is a great month here at Vintage Body Care.  Here’s why…. In March 2012,  we were blessed with the birth of a beautiful baby girl.  She was born prematurely, which involved a little extra hospital time and some problems we weren’t expecting.  I had already been placed on modified bed-rest for a good portion of the end of the pregnancy.  During this time is when I really started researching natural alternatives to conventional treatments, products, foods, etc.  Through this research I started learning more about toxins in our everyday environment.  When my daughter was unexpectedly born, I became hyper-vigilant about the toxins surrounding her, especially since she was so fragile being premature. Over the course of a few weeks, I realized it was time to take matters into our …… ( more )

Help Us Support Shriner’s Hospital!

Posted by & filed under Events.

Being a nurse and having previous flight nursing experience in a region where we commonly dropped off pediatric patients at the Shriner’s Hospital, I just couldn’t say no when I found out about this vending opportunity!  If you’ve never had the opportunity to visit a Shriner Children’s Hospital, you should.  It’s full of fun, smiles, healing and happiness.  It is humbling and amazing at the same time.  The children do not appear sad, instead, they are running (as fast as their bodies let them) down hallways (sometimes in full body casts on skateboards) and laughter often fills the air. We will be participating in the craft fair at the Shriner’s Club in Casper, WY.  Much of the proceeds will be donated to the Shriner Hospital Foundation.  Come join us and some other great local vendors. We will have some new …… ( more )
