Ancient Benefits for Modern Times
Salt is an essential element required for human life. Humans can endure periods without food, but our bodies cannot tolerate long periods without water, or salt. Salt has played a crucial role in both ancient and modern societies, and is key requirement for human survival and the development of civilizations. Before they could preserve food, ancient peoples were at the mercy of seasonal food supplies for their subsistence. In times of plenty, life was good, but in lean times, life was uncertain and grim. The discovery of salt as a food preservative made it possible for humans to migrate over long distances to areas of greater food supplies, while taking their food stores with them.
In ancient times salt was difficult to acquire, and this made it a highly valued trade item, a form of currency, and a sign of wealth. Because salt was once as prized as gold, it was also the catalyst for many ancient wars. Salt was so important to ancient peoples and trade, that many trade routes and roads sprung up around Europe and Asia for the express purpose of trading salt to other parts of the world. Many of these roads can still be seen today.
Today, we are not that much different than our ancient ancestors. Salt is still an essential element that all humans require for survival, and we still rely on it for food storage and preservation. In many parts of the world, salt continues to be a form of currency, and in many cultures, the presentation of salt with a meal is viewed as a sign of wealth and generous hospitality. 5,000 years of salt information here!
Where Does Salt Come From
Found underground, on the surface of the earth, and even in the some of the meteors that fall from space, salt is literally all around us. The biggest sources of salt today, are all salt water seas and oceans. Salt is harvested and produced through deep-shaft mining, freshwater solution mining, or through solar (wind & sun) evaporation.
Many Uses of Salt
Salt is a multi-use element, which means it has many applications including: medicine, industry, food production, agriculture, household applications, and of course, beauty and health. At Vintage Body Care our favorite use for salt comes in the form of a luxurious Sea Salt Bath Soak that combines the healing properties of minerals with the rejuvenation of salts. We have hand crafted our therapeutic bath products to restore many of the essential elements and minerals that are depleted from the body during times of stress. We believe that you deserve to have the opportunity to relax and distress, and believe that our Salt Soaks will aid you in the restoration of your body to its peak performance.
The primary ingredients of our Salt Soaks include: Dead Sea Minerals, Himalayan Pink Salt, and Epsom Salt . It has been rumored that Cleopatra fell in love with the healing properties found in the essential minerals of the Dead Sea, so much so, that she ordered cosmetic factories and resorts to be built along its shores. Mined from deep underground in the mountains of Pakistan, Himalayan Pink Salt is actually the remnants of an ancient sea that was crystallized in its purest state. Nepalese Sherpa’s believe the soft pink salt found in their region has sacred healing properties, and consider it one of the most beautiful and natural gifts from what they refer to as the “Mother of the World,” or Mount Everest. Epsom Salt is not actually a salt, but rather, a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Named after a bitter spring at Epsom in Surrey, England, the medicinal properties of Epsom Salt have been used by numerous cultures, for hundreds of years.
